WRITE EPA AND YOUR CONGRESS MEMBERS TO SUPPORT NEW TMDL REGULATIONS!

EPA WILL FINALIZE THE REGULATIONS THIS SUMMER!

The Environmental Protection Agency proposal to revise its water quality
regulations – called Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) – could provide a
powerful tool for river protection. Part of the Clean Water Act, the TMDL
provision requires states to identify waters that do not meet state water
quality standards and develop water quality restoration plans - TMDLs -
to
correct the violations.

One key component of EPA’s TMDL proposal is that it would require states
to
develop implementation plans, which are critical to the success of the
program. EPA’s proposal would also require all waterbodies suffering from
water quality violations from any source of pollution – whether from
industrial point sources, non-point runoff, flow reduction, or other
habitat
modification – to be listed as impaired.

Unfortunately, EPA has received an overwhelming number of negative
comments
about the proposed TMDL revisions from governors, state water quality
departments, Congress, and industry, among others because of the scope of
pollution sources it will combat and the implementation plan requirement.

EPA NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT! Because of the negative feedback, EPA may back
down
and weaken its proposal, which would be a great loss for our rivers and
the
communities that depend upon them.

EPA DESPERATELY NEEDS HELP FIGHTING FOR ITS PROPOSED TMDL REVISIONS.
INDUSTRY AND TIMBER HAVE BEEN DRUMMING UP OPPOSITION, AND
ENVIRONMENTALISTS
AND RIVER ADVOCATES HAVE NOT ADEQUATELY VOICED THEIR SUPPORT.

EPA NEEDS TO HEAR FROM YOU NOW!
