North Carolina has a lot of towns and cities that would be good models for this. Here in Durham we have a lot of green buffer zones. Our largest office building in the city is surrounded by trees. When I worked there I used to love looking out the window and seeing trees all the way to Raleigh. It's only the very center of "downtown" that is solid asphalt all around.
