Conserving Endangered Species on Non-Federal Lands
(ECS3137)

Course Dates: March 6-9, 2000

Location: Austin, Texas

Course Description: This course describes public, private and nonprofit
approaches to conserving endangered species on private, Tribal, State and
other non-Federal lands.  It covers the role of non-Federal lands in the
conservation of endangered species and Endangered Species Act policies
and
procedures that contribute to recovery of listed and candidate species on
such lands. The course reviews available tools including safe harbor and
candidate conservation agreements, the habitat conservation planning
process, conservation easements, land exchanges, landowner incentives and
the Partners for Fish and Wildlife program.  Case studies and class
discussions on the use of different approaches will be an integral part
of
this course.  College Credit: 2 semester hours.

Who should attend: Individuals from public, private and non-profit
organizations interested in conserving endangered species on non-Federal
lands.

Course length: 4 days, 32 hours

Objectives:
 Discuss the roles of landowners, land managers, agency representatives,
and others in conserving endangered species on non-Federal lands;
 Compare and contrast different approaches available for conserving
endangered species on non-Federal lands;
 Identify opportunities to foster the development of relationships and
partnerships between individuals and organizations interested in
conserving
endangered species on non-Federal lands.

Cost: The tuition fee for this 4-day course is $550.  Tuition assistance
may
be available for non-agency participants.  Please call (see Questions
