I am no botanist, but I do have a botany book, MARINE PLANTS OF THE CARIBBEAN,
Littler, Littler, Bucher & Norris, Smithsonian Instution Press 1989, p. 239,
chapter titled "Flowering Plants":

     "Marine Angiospermidae, unlike the algae, have true roots, stems, and
leaves
     containing vascular tissues, as well as inconspicuous flowers that form
spiny
     seeds. Even though relatively few marine species exist (about 50),...."
