Landscape cloth WAS culturing glass shrimp

I haven't heard of this technique before.  I assume the cloth prevents or
reduces sand from falling underneath the filter plate.  Could you provide
a little more details?  P.S. I've never even bought landscape cloth for the
yard so please note if there's a particular style or brand to look for.
