They are like ants. You have to carefully dig up the nest until you find her.
This is not a fun enterprise. I suspect they may have a "mating day" like
other colonizing insects. A little study, and you can figure out when that
might be, and how to identify it. Then you can just get yourself a pair, and
settle them into your own chosen nest site.
