Either the list manager is goofing up, which is unlikely, or no one is
posting anything, which also seems unlikely, or someone there is
intercepting the posts and answering them privately, which is doubtful.

I'll post a live foods comment today and we'll see what happens.

I have done that at least twice. Once worked fine; the other, with a
different vendor, didn't. Here's the story.

Last spring I needed a culture of Daphnia pulex to replace the
long-established one (10 year) that the house painters discarded, to "help"
me avoid mosquitoes. I selected a vendor who had many shipments and almost
all positive comments.

The daphnia arrived healthy, were placed in outdoor plastic bins, and grew.
However, I noticed that there were at least two kinds, the D. pulex and a
larger species that I assumed were D. magna. The culture survived the
summer but did not thrive the way the prior cultures did - no blooms, barely
enough for more than a weekly feeding.

At the end of the summer I moved part of the culture inside, as has been my
practice. After a bit I noticed that the daphnia had pretty much
disappeared, but there was another species in the bin, a thin, fast moving
organism that suggested "carnivore" to me. I gave up on that culture and
will order more in a few months.

When I noticed the D. magna I sent two emails to the vendor without a
response. I then filed a "complaint" about the vendor on Aquabid. I never
received a response to that.

I just visited the Aquabid site and I'll be darned if I could find a way to
check references for a vendor. I'm sure it's there somewhere, but it
doesn't really jump out at one.

When I order the daphnia this year I will get it from one of the established
commercial sites. It might cost a few dollars more but I'm sure the quality
will be worth it.

The list is still functional, though it rarely sees traffic. The
archive has been broken for some time. It is on my list to fix that. I
got bogged down in that project because the difficulty in reconstructing
the old messages. I should at least get new messages going to the
archive, which is easy.

1 QUESTION TO START THINGS UP.
why is it that I am always having problems to grow after hatching brineshrip
to the adult state.using sea water right temperatures and everything and
then I was given some soil allegedly containing eggs of triops and after
adding just water and leaving for 1 week alone no aeration no nothing I
found fully grown brineshrimp in it wondering about in the jar? the temp was
very low not as required by brinshrimp to hatch! approx 18deg Celsius.

The archive is working again for newly posted messages. I'll try to get
some of the older missing ones back online as well.
