There are other kinds of worms beside tubifex that are small and reddish. Nais are sometimes pink or reddish rather than the yellowish or whitish varieties.

As to using jello to feed Daphnia, any sticky incomplete protein food like jello ends up sticking to the gills and carapace of the daphnia, to the point it can interfere with movement and respiration. The sugar content will stimulate a growth of whatever live yeast and bacteria are in the culture water. Hopefully the daphnia can handle this population explosion by eating the yeast and bacteria. It's a risky food that can be fed in small quantities if you are on hand to do any extra water changes that might turn out necessary.
