centrifuge alternative

A centrifuge can be a hazard if heavy items are cenrifuged and very tedious if small volumes have to be done without an automated system. It also consumes a lot of energy. I have concentrated algae for feeding to Daphnia for years with a very low tech system. I put a small outside filter on the green water culture tank, fill with filter floss only, and run it for a few minutes. You don't want to forget it because the algae packed in the floss will begin to die once water flow through the floss slows down significantly. I agree that does indicate that it could be cell damage rather than simple overcrowding that causes them to die, but I concentrate them only for immediate feeding, not for storage.
