When they get to be about 3/4 inch long, look for some color on the unpaired
fins - the dorsal and caudal fin are easiest to spot. Soon after some color
shows up, the fins will get progressively more sharpened and less round in
the males. In some cases some color shows up before they are that large -
maybe age rather than size is the determinant.
