Re: questions, first killie babies
Brian,
I have a batch of Fp. Gardneri "Biassa" that are just sexing out. I can't
tell the sex until they reach approximately .5". I'm not sure that age has
much to do with it because depending on how much you feed and what temp. you
keep them at, they may reach .5" at vastly different times. Anyway like
Wright says, look at the dorsal and anal fins. At this size my Biassa
females will have only small red spots on the dorsal and anal. Otherwise
the fins will appear clear. In the males the fins have larger red spots and
are starting to show the yellow fin margins. Don't expect to see vivid
color at this point. Looking at a group of fish you should be able to see
the difference between the males and females based on dorsal and anal fin
coloration. Interestingly enough, in the Biassa strain, the caudal also
begins to square out and show some color at this small size.
