Allergies, etc.
I appreciate all the interest and advice. It explains a lot of things I've
experienced the past six months or so. As far as gloves go, my dental supply
man tells me most of the latex allergies are believed to really be caused by
the powder on the glove. Consequently, powdered gloves are being phased out
and replaced with powderless (a major PITB), so powdered gloves will be a
bargain until the world supply is depleted. Current price to me is $5.95/100.
I should be able to adapt some of our techniques used with patients to avoid
skin contact, but the teaspoon idea is way too simple ;)! I've been shaving
the frozen BWs with a razor blade and feeding partially frozen. I feed the
blocks unthawed to the angels and big-mouth killies. Is feeding that cold a
problem or should they be thawed in water?
The thought occured to me that OSHA would have field day with this. Can you
imagine we fish-geeks having to keep MSD sheets and hazard labels on our
feed? A warning on the packaging might not be a bad idea, but that would
affect the price!
Thanks for the help. The conjuntiva reaction the other PM was scarier than I
let on. Never again will I touch those critters barehanded.
