I have a similar pemanent set-up I constructed underneath my 55 Gal tank. I 
built two tiers of tanks that are 45 in long and partitioned them into 5 
compartments each. The partitions allow for the water to flow to all 5 
compartments and this way I have 10 "individual" small tanks for the killies.
A word of caution in my type of setup I can"t keep closely related species in 
adjacent spaces because since the water flows to all 5 compartments there is 
a danger of hybridization.
