This is exactly what my feelings are, which is why I ran for the BOT last 
year with a mentoring program on my agenda of things I wanted to accomplish. 
I have now formulated a strategy and have the approval of the BOT to initiate 
the program and will shortly call for volunteers via this list and the BNL to 
serve as local "mentors". The important thing it would add to the process 
would be a mechanism whereby I would notify monthly a "mentor" and a new 
member of their proximity. It still will rely on the generosity and 
willingness of the experienced member to help the new member (which never has 
been lacking).
