There are many varieties of acrylic yarn available for various knitting
purposes. Unfortunately, I believe all nylon yarn is now made for carpet
manufacture and is not appropriate for mops. I have found many of the acrylic
yarns to be perfectly acceptable, even without problems on boiling. However,
some others have not been as pleasant to deal with. The fish don't seem to
mind which it is, they still prefer live Java moss, in most cases. But the
mops provide hiding places for the females. For S.A. annuals, I now prefer
Fluval Peat Fiber made for filter use. So do the fish.
