website, passwords, etc

Hi,
I sense a growing consensus on having a password protected section of
the site. I see no reason. I think we're fiddling to fiddle. A paper
roster is fine for me. So is an open site. When I went to rejoin the
ACA, their password-protected site convinced me not to join. I didn't
like their 'attitude'.
I'll stay with the AKA as long as I stay with killie-keeping. The web
site is no reason - probably most members are still not online.
What I would like to see with a check off box is every article that goes
to the JAKA. I think authors who express an interest should have their
texts archived online - not the entire JAKA, but sections, a few months
after members get them. JAKA is an attraction to join, but elements from
back issues, as they become back issues, would be an asset to the site.
We don't have to give away the farm. We could build it slowly. I think
we really need an online library on the site.
The 'stuff' the AKA can give away for free is knowledge, and this club
is rich in that. Take away that desire to learn and this list dies. I
bet there are a lot of list-members yawning at this thread but wondering
how to keep species XYZ and hanging on in case someone says it. We
should be making that info available. If that section of the site
included 'join the AKA' info, betcha we'd pull a lot of new members, and
new knowledge for the pool.
Off the soapbox I go...
