Priority Mail Shipping
I saw a recent email that mentioned that Priority Mail was
being handled by Emory Express and it may no longer be safe for shipping
fish.
I contacted the Pittsburgh Post Office and a woman named
Janet(412 359-1446) who works evenings(3:30 PM eastern time till midnight) has
checked into the matter for me. Through her own personal contacts working
at the sorting and air delivery departments she learned that IF MARKED LIVE FISH
they were air transported in heated, pressurized bays and were even transported
on ground long haul if air delivery was not necessary (not your daily pickup at
the local post office) in air climate controlled trucks.
Shuffling of flight arrangements is made rather than waiting
for the next scheduled mail flight for express to meet the 24 hour
delivery. That is, if a plane left, sometimes special arrangements
are made with another commercial flight. There is no other special handling
for express that Priority mail properly labeled does not receive.
I would guess that it is possible that some killie shippers
didn't mark the boxes or didn't prominently mark the boxes and they were handled
as just freight not livestock.
I will continue based on this information to use Priority Mail
until I have a problem
