>>>So, let me see if I have this straight: 1) I donate my fish (whether the AKA is surviving on convention revenues or profits from AWOK is a matter for another discussion, like when will AKA start publishing timely budgets)<<
>
>I did not intend to start an AKA bashing flame thread. I suppose I could have glossed over the "donation to the AKA" part of the auction rules. But it's a fact so why sugar coat it among adults. For those of you that are unaware, the AKA takes 85% of the proceeds and the host club 15%.
>
>And, yes, AWOK success has contributed to the AKA's coffers, much of which has made it's way into CDs for a rainy day, which is inevitable for any club. But I would not be so critical of it's success. The AKA's financial success has led to beautiful color photos in every JAKA issue. There's also a movement underfoot to change the split to include the seller. Contact your BOT representative and voice your opinion and attend the open BOT meeting Friday evening at the convention (it's open to all members).
>
>Moreover, if you still don't feel the organization is being run to your satisfaction, then make sure you vote accordingly the next time the ballot appears in the BNL. Not all of these comments are directed at you Matt, as I know you do vote and do voice your opinion. But they are meant as a general comment for the membership as a whole
>
>BTW, I would also lik to see a more frequent accounting of finances to members. My local cichlid club treasurer reports the club's finances every month at our meeting. Not only does this give members an accounting of how much is in the bank (including several CDs), but also on how the money is spent for shows, meeting room, etc..

>>>2) I pay extra (postage) to send in my fish registration
>
>If you don't want to pre-register your fish, then don't. The effort is an attempt to make the check-in process as smooth as possible. Frankly, I'd rather fill out the form at home instead of Friday night at the convention. Conventions are too short as it is without sitting around filling in forms. But at least you'll get to spend some extra time at the registration table chatting with Ken and Arlene <s>.
>
>Another benefit of advanced registration for the sale room is that we would like to distribute a print out to attendees listing the available fish by genus/species prior to the sale. We are asking for everyone's cooperation in order to achieve this by having sellers send their list in early so we can get as much of the data entry dirty work done before the convention even opens.
>
>I personally feel that these benefits are easily worth the price of a first class stamp.
>
>P.S. remember that you can add or delete fish from your list at check in so sending in a pre-registration form does not "lock" you into which fish you can or are able to bring to the convention.
>
>>>3) by doing this, will there be no transcription errors in the Genus/Species info? It's pretty comical how badly this is butchered at an AKA. For example, I gave up trying to convince the folks at one AKA that my fish were 'Aphyosemion ogoense ottgarTneri' not '...ottogarDneri' they thought _I_ had it wrong, ...<<
>
>Come on. Don't prejudge us based on past experience at a different event. Besides, everyone working at the convention is a volunteer, including the out-of-town AKAers that step up to help. Proper nominclature can be a touchy situation, even amongst expert scientist, let alone amature hobbiest. Again, sending in you list in advance may help resolve these descrepencies before the show, rather than at the registration table when there's a line of attendees trying to check in.
>
>>>Can I just do this on the web?<<
>
>Maybe next year :-) That would require extra assistence from Barry Cooper, the AKA 's web master. Barry, who's in the midddle of bi-coastal commute this year, has helped out tremendously with the on-line registration form as it is. He is also bringing his laptop into Chicago so we can validate credit cards for registration and auction sales.
