I have to disagree somewhat with the statement that most killies will not 
touch flake foods.
Every Killie I have ever kept has eaten flake food, this goes for F1 from 
wild fish I received from T. Hannick years ago to any fish I have received 
today. Some are reluctant at first but after a few days they get the hang of 
it. I however agree with your comment that you must give them a varied diet. 
All my killies also receive at least one feeding of baby brine per day and in 
season mosquito larvae etc. Do not feed just one food if you want healthy and 
robust fish.
