I've had the same problem. Acriflavin just sometimes seems to toughen the
chorion to the point they can't hatch.

I now use a *very* weak mix of methylene blue and acriflavin on "must keep"
eggs. It is only enough to tint the water a very pale green, and I do succesive
daily water changes until it is visibly gone. If the egg container has a little
peat or Java moss, those tend to soak up the dyes pretty well, too.

The sprig of Java moss is a pretty good antibacterial by itself. It appears that
the filter-feeders like rotifers and other infusoria that it carries do a great
job of sucking all free-floating bacteria out of the water.
