Hello Jason
The only real answer to your question is Live Foods. A good variety of
different live foods will bring out the best possible colors in your
fish. A healthy fish will always look it's best color wise. There
might be better looking strains than you have out there but healthy well
fed fish always look their best. As to females of Australe "Gold", of
course they won't look as colorful as males do, but they still have nice
golden color so explain it to your lfs that this is the female, no
different the African peacock cichlid females, they are all drab looking
but the stores still have them. Good luck
