Re: Egg incubation

I returned from Cameroon in December where I collected lots of the
Chromaphyosemions all over the southern part of the country. The TDS of almost
all Cameroon water is very soft about 10-20 TDS. The pH is usually 6.0 to 6.5.
RO water works fine as long as you add some regular water to raise up the TDS.
Personally I raise all of my Chroms in city water at a TDS of 300 and a pH of
7.0 to 8.2. They do fine in these conditions and lays lots of eggs. The
problem with very soft water (10-20 TDS) is that it is very poorly buffered
and you will get very acidic water rather quickly which can eventually and
sometimes very quickly kill your fish. You can generate pH 4.0 water in a week
or so if one is not careful. Sincerely, Nevin Aspinwall
