Egg incubation

I just picked 22 eggs (Fp. gardneri "misaje") and would like to incubate on
peat. I microwaved the peat and placed it in a petri dish. I then placed
the eggs on the cooled, damp peat. I have tried this unsuccessfully
before...only one hatch and it died. However I did not microwave the peat
and I incubated in a lighted room. The "natural" method works well for me
but very few fry. Can I keep the petri plate w/ eggs in a styrofoam box?
It would keep it warmer and in the dark, but I do not know how much gas
exchage the developing eggs need. Any tricks on when/how to hatch the fry
would also be appreciated. Also I recently received a large culture of
vinegar eels. The vinegar smell is strong (a small fish room) so I was
wondering if I could put a lid on the gallon glass jar? Once again I do not
know how important gas exchange is for the eels, I do not want to
suffocate them either.
