Hatching Aphyosemion Eggs
I've been reading as much information on the various killies that I can and
since I'll be starting with a few varities of the Aphyosemion species, I am
earger to learn as much as possible. As a new prospective killie breeder, I
found an article in the Dec 1990 FAMA magazine regarding Aphyosemion
Gardneri Nigerianum Rayfield. The author, Rod Smith, had great success in
hatching the eggs by soaking a white paper towel in water in which one drop
of acriflavine had been added. He then squeezed out the excess water and
placed the towel in a plastic butter container. He deposited the eggs on
the towel, folded the towel over the eggs and sealed the container. He
checked periodically and was able to hatch a high percentage of eggs. My
question is, Has anybody else tired this method with success? I have also
read that breeders have placed eggs on a bed of peat moss and have enjoyed
success this way also. I'm interested in any other AKA breeder successes on
Aphyosemions.
