Re: It's all in the names, including lots of confusion
Many years ago, the AKA decided to utilize common names in the Fish and Egg
Listings of the BNL. Within a few bulletins there was a real uproar as common
names vary from one area to another and there are numerous "Pearlfish", the
common name of Cynolebias. The use of common names was immediately abandoned
and the proper scientific names have been employed since that time. We must
remember, this hobby is world wide and it is imperative everyone know exactly
what is being discussed. Please use the proper names. They become much simpler
with practice including Fundulopanchas gardneri. With this beauty, KL one must
specify the collection location as there are a great number of varieties of
different colors and patterns. It can be a challenge and periodically the
scientific name are changed, but that just adds to the challenge. Have fun
Yours, Harry Specht
