There are at least two color forms of Aplocheilus lineatus. The normal color
as seen in the wild is a barred fish, especially females and immature or
subordinate males. The "gold" form developed in the hobby is less likely to
show the bars and has an overall golden brassy color. It is the more common
variety in the trade right now than the traditional color form.
