Stick with regular window glass. Auto glass is rarely flat, and is
always either "tempered" (shatters when you try to cut it) or
"shatterproof" which is a laminate of two glass around one plastic
layer. The latter is very tough for experts to cut, so shops almost
never do it. It's all factory formed to size.

Demolition contractors sometimes are willing to give away the glass when
a house or store comes down. Old plate-glass store windows are great for
larger tanks or small-tank bases.

For 5G, or less, tanks, "Plexi" is easier for most handymen to work
with. Try for scrap at your local plastics supplier. Use the solvent
acrylic cement. Silicone doesn't stick, like it does to glass.
