There's a long history of shortcuts that facilitate rapid communications
on the internet. Some specialized uses have developed over the years,
and aquaria newsgroups, as some of the very earliest on the internet,
played a strong role and even developed some of their own. The plant
list had absolutely nothing to do with it.

AFAIK (As Far As I Know) they are all well listed in the aquaria
archives at Cal Tech and can be accessed by anyone interested. I suggest
you go there and check, if an abbreviation cannot be guessed from
context.
