I have sometimes seen this as well. The only possible explanation that I can
think of is the oxygen level in the planted aquarium vs. the container. I have
seen much better survival of eggs in shallow Petri dishes than in vials or
cups. I suspect it is the surface/volume ratio. Perhaps the oxyletten tablets
would work here as well as in annuals, except they don't last long enough. Try
shallow conatiners vs. deeper containers if you really want to solve this
"problem". It is no real problem if you are getting a fair number of fry from
the tank.
