Re: acriflavine
I'm looking too, but whats an IFS?
Live fish store, live food's store, live flounder store .... ;)
Acriflavine is carried under different brand names. For instance Aquatronics
makes an "acriflavine plus" which includes sulfa drugs, presumably to treat
secondary infections to whatever is being treated. Bamiflavin is another
brand name commented upon a while back on this list. Jungle makes a "velvet
guard" which includes it in the mix.
Many of the medicinal dyes have been accused of being cancer causing, so use
judiciously. There are people would contend that they also soak into sealing
silicons along the tank edges. Acriflavine is used in egg incubation
solutions by some - and has also proven useful, along with water changes,
the addition of salt and darkening a tank in helping killies over come
velvet. It may interfere with the light waves which velvet uses for
photosynthesis.
The medicinal dyes can also be tough on plants. Minutes after putting
methylene blue in with hornwort the hornwort will fall apart. I was
surprised to lose Java moss to acriflavine. Again, the suggestion would be
to use carefully and water change it out when it is no longer needed.
All the best!
Scott
