Many years ago.[70s? IDK.] No. There is only one ICZN, and most US
hobbyists and many Europeans try to follow the official nomenclatures
whenever they can. Old books, laziness, and pet peeves all mess us up a
bit. Sad.
IMHO, those who fail, or refuse, to use approved scientific names just
create unnecessary confusion. [Sorry, Royal. ;-)]

PS. It's not a bad idea to label newly-revised Latin decriptors with the
old name in parentheses following. That way people don't think you are
describing a new fish, and they get used to the new name more quickly.
