Sponge for filters and Microscopes
I work with computers and have used sponge packing from equipment
shipments. I tested it on some guppies and had no losses. It appears
(it's gray and the same density) to be the exact same sponge that is
used with the "Dirt Magnet" commercial filters.
I also see some sponge that looks to be the same stuff sold at K-Mart
for insulating around window air-conditioner installations. It's cheap
but I haven't tried this and don't really know about it. It may be
treated with an anti-bacterial agent.
As far as Microscopes...don't forget Edmund Scientific at
"www.wdsci.com". I've been ordering from them since I was a kid!
Remember prisms and magnets? Anyway, they have a good selection from
reasonable to expensive. Jeez, I'd love to have one of their video
microscope systems. Just don't have $2,000-$4,000 I can afford to send
to 'em right now. But they have a real nice binocular inspection scope
for about $350 that looks to be great. Last Spring I bought an
illuminated pocket scope about 50 power for about $30. It works fine
and I can carry it in my pocket. But a table model would be nice to
have in the fish room.
Stay warm!
