Re: KillieTalk Digest V2 #550

Ramshorns reproduce about as rapidly as pond snails, at least mine do. They
do grow rapidly too. I started with 3 and some new plants that I thought I
cleaned thoroughly and I now have a couple of hundred.

I do not believe you will find a snail that will not eat fish eggs or plants
to a greater or lesser degree. Mystery or apple snails are probably the best
answer for your use. They do reproduce occassionally and smaller ones are
available. But they will eat eggs just as any snail will. Any type of
scavenger that I am aware of will eat eggs.

I think the other snail you are thinking of may be the Japanese livebearing
snail. I have nine about the size of a nickel and am very happy with the job
they are doing in my 29 community tank. But as with all other snails, I'm
sure they will eat fish eggs.
