Spawning temp.
I am currently keeping two species of Aphyosemion, sp. Lenghe Curoh(a Rol.
type) and bivattitum Funge. Both were kept at a temp of 81 to 86 all
summer long with little or no egg production. Once fall came around and
the temp in my tanks dropped down to between 75 and 80 egg production has
started up again.
I would assume that too high or too low a temp will stress killies to the
point that they no longer spawn. I would also assume that the comfortable
temp range is not a constant for the entire genus, as Aphyosemions are
found at varying altitudes and climate zones.
Finding the perfect temp for individual species or locals may be further
complicated by the fact that many people do not heat their killie tanks.
This can lead to wide temp variations throughout a 24 hour period. In this
case how can one say that they are having good spawning success at a
specific temp?
