snails revisited
In a previous KILLIETALK some people hated snails, some thought
they were good for the tank. I never have liked them much
but I now have containers full of fry. I am now thinking they
might make cleaning easier. Now what kind to get, I have never
heard which is best for cleaning plastic containers. I can get pond
snails, rams horn, apple, and one that has a long cone shape.
A good snail should:
Not eat fry or eggs
Not eat Java moss
Clean up the uneaten food at bottom of the container
Stay in the container (not trying to migrate somewhere else)
Reproduce themselves so I do not have to buy them again
Rams horn look best to me. If I get too many I can sell them back,
no one would buy pond snails. Apples seems too big, I don't know
anything about the cone shaped ones.
I would like to get some of your thoughts on which kind is best,
Or the pros and cons of each.
