They are distant relatives of killies, but I raise fancy guppies at a pH of
8.3 and get a preponderance of males. Most lps are happy to have lots of
males, since that's what the customers prefer. I do have to drop the pH once
in awhile to be sure I get enough females for my needs and aquarium club
auctions, where pairs or trios are preferred. I have Pachypanchax omalonotus,
and I don't have enough yet to know, but I am keeping them at two different
ph('es?), because entries in my fish book indicate they have mostly females in
soft acid water. I hope to match pairs if needed from the two different
"aquahabitats".
