Care of Monia -Reply

Nancy Garcia of the Chicago killie group wrote the defininitve article on
feeding and caring for monia and it was published in the AKA Journal
about 10 years ago. From what I can recall Nancy suggested using
distillate of alfalfa pellets or something similar. Which meant taking some
alfalfa pellets like they feed hamsters or rabbits and soaking them over
night. Then pour the mush through a brine shrimp net. Feed the liquid that
passes though to the monia. Nancy's article went on with directions for
storing the distillate. If you get these going I would like a start and would
be happy to trade you some regular daphnia or some gardneri eggs.

Incidentally, I have had great luck feeding a yellow powder made by OSI
that looks like APR. Any real fine powdery food seems to work or any
food that stays in suspension. If Monia are like regular daphnia I would
also suggest a lot of light. Best Wishes Bob
