Apisto video on the web
Eric Olson, founder of the Krib web site (www.TheKrib.com), has just
put up a video clip of an Apistograma aggsizii female guarding her eggs
over a four day period. By Eric's own admission, the clip is a bit dark
and grainy, but It does show the female's behavior clearly.
I think this is a cool use of Internet technology that everyone should
check out, even if you're not into dwarf cichlids.
The video can be viewed by using Real Audio's royalty free RealPlayer
application. I've pasted Eric's message below that has the URL for the
clip and the site for the RealPlayer G2 software.
Cool stuff. Imagine what else could be put on-line; mating behavior of
hard to breed cichlids, peat spawning killies diving into the jar of peat,
netting techniques of on-site collectors, etc.

Thanks to advice from Doug Brown, I put a clip of our Apisto aggsizii
guarding her eggs over four days. It's a 281K file and you'll need the
RealVideo G2 player to see the sucker, and the quality is not that good
(low light level)...

I haven't decided whether or not to leave it on there (because of the bad
quality), but I'm thinking the media has interesing possibilities to show
spawning behavior, posturing, etc.
Oh, you can download the player at
http://www.real.com/products/player/index.html
Unfortunately, they seem to only have this particular version available
for Micro$oft OS's, so Mac & Linux folk are out of luck. :{
