Weird Aphyosemion australe (gold).

Folks,

Lately, both in New Zealand and South Africa, some odd forms of the
fish we normally call the gold australe have been appearing. I first
heard about it in NZ towards the end of 1997 with some young fish that
I'd given away throwing a peculiar male with much less colouration in
the fins etc. When I mentioned this to a friend on the AUNZZA list in
South Africa, he said he'd noticed a similar thing with some fish that
he'd bred from stock obtained from Germany. He has had some luck breeding
from these fish and is in the process of attempting to 'fix' it as a strain.
This will obviously take at least a few more generations before he can be
sure that he has something.

There are some photos available at:

Let me know what you think or if you've seen such a thing in
your own tanks.

Later,
