A computer virus is going around! It is called BUDDYLST.ZIP - DO NOT DOWNLOAD

BUDDYLST.ZIP!!!

This hoax is a slight variation on the traditional threat that simply reading
the e-mail message will cause an attack, which many users are learning is not
possible. Instead, in order to bring the threat into the realm of technical
feasibility, the message implies that there is an attachment, BUDDYLST.ZIP,
that contains the virus, thereby providing a viable mechanism for transmitting
a virus or, as in this case, a Trojan Horse, although it requires a user to
download and execute the attachment. However, according to Symantec, there is
no known program called BUDDYLST.ZIP, Trojan Horse or otherwise, and thus this
is strictly a hoax and should be treated as such.
Note that the version of this message received by the ASSIST was contained in
a combination note comprised of multiple hoaxes.

As with the BuddyLst above, this hoax is a variation on the traditional threat
that simply reading the e-mail message will cause an attack, which many users
are learning is not possible. Instead, in order to bring the threat into the
realm of technical feasibility, the message implies that there is an
attachment, BUDSAVER.EXE, that contains the virus, thereby providing a viable
mechanism for transmitting a virus or, as in this case, a Trojan Horse,
although it requires a user to download and execute the attachment. However,
according to Symantec, there is no known program called BUDSAVER.EXE, Trojan
Horse or otherwise, and thus this is strictly a hoax and should be treated as
such.
Note that some versions of this message received by the ASSIST have been
contained in combination notes comprised of multiple hoaxes. Also, one version
included the preface, "The following information was shared today by the
Montgomery County Police Department", adding an "authority" to the alert.
