Florida Flag Fish
I put 3 pair of flag fish out in my pond this spring. The pond is about
700 gallons. 8 foot diameter and about 18 inches deep. The pond is
heavily planted with vallisineria and hardy hybrid (fancy) water lilies. I
also placed 3 pair of lucania goodei in the pond.
Last week I started removing flag fish. I have several sizes so I believe I
have at least two, possibly three generations. No sign of the L goodei.
Anyway, my best estimate is that I have 3000 flag fish. I flooded the
local market and pet shops. My angelfish are full of the small flag fish..
My friends oscar is full of the big flag fish.
If anyone would like to trade for water plants or flag fish, drop me a note.
I thought about sending some of these to the foreign shows, but I am not
sure of the respone they will get. They are not show stoppers. They
are native fish, what do you expect?
Also, I mentioned last month. If anyone in your local club is going to throw
away their TROPICAL water lily root, drop me a note and I will try to
overwinter the root and send you a cutting in the spring if you want. Or I
can send some killie eggs in exchange.
Fish on my want list: C. pengelli, P. padoxys, any Pterolebias,
Congopanchax brichardi, E. annulatus. Drop me a note and I'll list my
fish available for trade. Yes, spelling police, I do not have my KMI handy
so please feel free to correct my mistakes.
Beginners with questions please feel free to e-mail me on this web site
or privately and I will try to answer any questions you have.
Best Wishes
