Re: Alum

Hello Christopher,

If you can not follow Taigha's suggestion to buy alum from "any
Chemist/Drug store usually in large Crystals" -- which is a very good
suggestion, *if* your local drug store carries it/is willing to order
it. Anothet source might be your local High School chemistry lab.

A cheaper source would be a store that sells home canning supplies. Alum
is sometimes used in making sour pickles.

Carolina Biological (Tel: 1-800-334-5551) carries it (#84-3490), but it
is expensive there.

If everything else fails, use a "styptic pencil", which is almost pure
aluminum sulfate. (For those *not* shaving with a blade: if you cut
yourself, a styptic pencil is used to stem the blood.)

Best,

George
