Hydra -Reply
To get rid of Hydra I double the aeration and double the number of heaters
in the tank. Then I raise the temperature to 105F, about 40C, for 30
minutes. Most fish and plants can take this without side effects. I
encourage prevention against hydra whenever possible. Quarantine fish
for one week. Any live plants should be placed in a bucket with 1
teaspoon ALUM per gallon for one hour. ALUM apparently is not harmful
to plants and is actually similar to a fertilizer.
I would also suggest tearing down tanks and washing with a chlorine
bleach occasionally. Good Luck
