Re: styrofoam shipping boxes

As with others on the list, I also get some great styro shipping boxes from
a local veterinarian. They call me whenever they have a few surplus boxes.
No charge. They don't want to throw them in the trash and are happy to have
them reused. They come irregularily, not too many at a time. Since I don't
want to stop this pipeline, sometimes I accumulate more styro boxes than I'd
rather keep around the house. I bring them to the local fish show auctions,
such as West Coast Weekend, slap a label on the pile saying "Free boxes",
and they all disappear. I think some auction buyers end up buying more fish
than they would have, knowing there are extra boxes available for the
overflow. Other buyers may have forgotten to bring a box, or newbies may
not have known to bring a shipping box.

On occasion, I've been in situations where I was shipping out more fish than
I had boxes. In my listing I noted that I would give preference to those
persons who could mail their own styro box upfront with their order. I was
pleasantly surprised to find that most buyers had boxes and willingly sent
them. [Of course I had a box or two around for those who didn't.] I didn't
have to wait endlessly for my boxes to be returned (or not, as the case may
be). Sometimes the box sent in was not adequate for the order going back,
and I substituted my own boxes, but I don't think anyone would have a
problem with that. All in all, a good method for keeping the amount of
clutter around here manageable.
