If you back to Old aquarium literature (1950/60's)this was the suggested way
of killing hydra. From what I read mainly 12 volt car batteries were used ?
According to articles at that time it had nothing to do with metal ions, you
were simply
electrocuting the hydra.
However each text that I read made the recommendation of removing the fish
while administering this treatment which ussually took 12 hours.
