Surprise australe fry

Surprise!
I recently obtained some eggs from F2 Aphyosemion australe from Cap Esterias.
About eleven hatched two months ago after immersing peat fibers that were used
to ship them. Not needing the shoe box I just left it with the peat fibers
submerged in water after removing all the fry to a separate rearing container.
The other day I needed the container and was about to pour it through a net to
recover the fibers for other uses. Being always inquisitive, I looked first.
To my surprise there were two apparently recently hatched fry. I removed them
to another container and thought that was pretty remarkable. The next day I
found two more obviously just hatched fry. Today I checked again but found no
additional fry. This raises the issue about incubation times for australe.
These were not stored on damp peat but immersed. Of course, they had been on
damp peat for about a week during shipment. Could this have triggered a
diapause stage?
Has anyone else had similar experiences with australe? I have sometimes found
annuals and semi-annuals that have hatched long after the main group from the
same batch, but those are supposed to have annual characteristics. Are
australe unique in this regard or has anyone had similar experience with other
supposed non–annuals?
Another thought, maybe they aren't australe. but some other species. Time
will tell, assuming I have at least one male in the four.
