If you're talking about Melanotaenia praecox, then they raise
themselves.

Nothos aren't like that.  Your fry will likely be dead from velvet
before your green water clears enough for you to see them.  If you want
a non-brineshrimp first food then try a good paramecium culture.

Having said that, I raised N. rachovii on newly hatched artemia with
minimal or no losses.  The same for all my Nothos.  Haven't tried
any of the Aphyobranchus types though and I'd fully expect them to
pose problems.

I use 12 x 8 x 8 inch tanks with sponge filters and some java moss
to raise (and later breed) all my Nothos.
