Re: KillieTalk Digest V2 #261

Barry....I spoke with you at the AKA convention for a second about your
N. rachovii. I got 2pr of your N. rachovii 'Beria' 91.

My question to you dealt with the length of "dry" period for the
rachovii. You said something like 4-6 months......and that is the
generally accepted time for incubation for all I had read. I told you
that almost 2 years ago I got a strain of N. rachovii from a guy who had
originally gotten the strain from the NE USA 3-4 years ago.

All of my efforts towards N. rachovii in the far past were nada!!!!
Nothing, not at any time of drying. This strain I picked up, I was
told, "...hey, 9-10 weeks and like popcorn." Well....I put the peat in
water last night at 10 weeks and I have a bunch (maybe 50) fry that
went off on the first wetting. Conditions......a bit wetter peat than
what I generally saw at the convention selling room.....air conditioned
room that is 77 degrees 24 hours a day, not really out of the
light....just stacked on a bookshelf double bagged in zip-lock bags.

Since I've now got some peat from your N. rachovii 'Biera (is that how
you spell this)' what date should I put on it........do I even have a
chance of 9-10 weeks? I realize this if Florida....but they are not
over heated other than 77 degrees constant. The obvious answer is to
just try it, I can't really hurt the eggs I guess....just redry and go
about my business, but I really wanted to speak with you about this but
you were awfully busy at the convention. I guess that I am asking if I
may be doing something, unknowngly that is speeding up the "dry" time,
or is the other rachovii just "aquariumnized" after all of these
years.....course that brings up other questions......such as how long
does it take to do that etc.

Looking forward to the "black rachovii" someday!

Have a good day!
Mike
