Re: KillieTalk Digest V2 #240

Hi folks,
There has been a great amount of discussion on the another site about the
beginners committee of the AKA. The discussion originated when a young lady
asked why that when questions are asked about killies , does everyone say
," Join the AKA". and you'll find out . There have been many replies to this
question. Most lean to the fact that the AKA does not have a consistent
Beginners program. Many of the thoughts expressed were that if the AKA
provided information about joining the AKA , information about killies and
a "free pair of fish" , many more beginners would wind up joining the AKA.

There have been rumors of free fish for many years and these rumors will
never die. At one time there was such a program and the then Chairman found
it unworkable and it faded into obscurity. Such a program , in my opinion,
would be impossible to maintain by one person. There are just too many
logistical problems involved.

This other web site has now had persons volunteer to start and maintain
such a program in their "state". This list has about six volunteers at this
point in time.

What they propose is a regional approach to the question of offering free
fish and mentoring to beginners. I for a fact know that the present
Beginners committee is trying to do an honorable job in this area . This
enormous task cannot be undertaken by a lone individual.

There have been many suggestions offered as to how to implement a program
such as this , which I am sure in the long run would benefit the AKA.
I would therefore like to open a discussion on this topic on this web site,

Respectfully submitted.
