I use mosquito larvae, black worms, grindals, and -- primarily --
freshly-hatched baby brine shrimp for conditioning. The latter are quite
enough, and the most practical for just a few tanks. I also feel that
food variety avoids some potential nutritional deficiencies.

Feed bbs as soon as fully hatched, for they drop in nutritional value
quickly when they start to molt in a few hours.

The worms need cleaning, and much of the country has trouble getting
mosquitos this time of year.

I use adult Artemia as my "staple" food because they are cheap and
readily available in the SF Bay area, year around.
